Faithfulness

In 2 Kings 12.15 we find a few words written concerning certain men, and though the words are few they are both precious and important. The words are" They dealt faithfully." It is unquestionable that in the divine standard of values faithfulness has a very high place. it is something that is true of God Himself. Both to His people Israel of old and to His gathered people of this dispensation God has revealed Himself as the God who is faithful. And He delights to see faithfulness in His people. God saved us, not merely to deliver us from eternal judgement. That itself is much. But He saved us that He might have a people to whom He could commit the sacred trust of divine truth, that it might be held, taught and practised. Paul, when writing to the Corinthians, stated the important truth, "Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." Faithfulness is the great requisite in stewardship. An unfaithful steward can be but a grief and disappointment to him who appoints him. And so it is in the things of God. What grief and sorr6w we must cause by our unfaithfulness! May we be stirred by reflecting upon the teaching of such words as, "His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
