Christian soldier, what the hope
That spurs thee on thy way?
What the light that gleams afar
To cheer thee day by day?
What the anchor of thy soul?
Thy haven of retreat?
Tossed by storms, enswathed in mists,
Say, whom wilt thou entreat?
Lift thine eyes above, beyond
The confines of this earth;
Pierce the skies and see enthroned
Our Lord, of matchless worth:
Know assuredly He comes
Back to earth again;
MARANATHA," Christ returneth,
As the KING to reign!
This thy watchword be, 0 Christian,
As thou travellest on
MARANATHA "-always, only,
Till the journey's done.
